My Dear Mr George W Bush,
as a qualified Plant Biotechnologist and Geneticist I have realized that
chemical farming has already done a substantial damage to the ecosystem of earth.
If we feel that the genetic engineering
can help us in reducing chemicals off the agriculture then we are mistaken.
Because changing the original nature of
organisms through genetic engineering is like playing God for the society, which everybody knows is not the case.
Being
a layman as you are not aware of the details of genetic engineering, let me educate you on this aspect of technology.
Look,
I am a jobless biotechnologist, and you are a President. I am not interested in your genes would you be interested in mine,
the answer will be no, I know.
But, let me educate you on the issue of genetic engineering first as I often educate
the farmers here in India.
Dear Mr Bush, let us assume both of us change our genes (or characteristics
for that matter) for a while then what will happen.
Perhaps I would take my breakfast in India, at my home in Haryana state and then I would go to White House and could
ask for a particular file, dinner or could perform any other task, which you perform. You will be in trouble and the whole
America and world will be in trouble.
This is the system I am talking about which we have developed in only last few thousands of years, and we suppose
if we change the personalities by any mean (well that could be genetic engineering) then this social system will come down
or will have serious problems.
What will happen to the social system of ecosystem of earth (a self-sustaining community
of millions of organism) if we start changing genetic blue print of the organisms at our will?
Though changes in nature
occur but there is always a limit to that. There is a barrier of species and so on. And nature has not multinational company
like Monsanto, which produces a single kind of plant/organism over and over again with only one kind of alien gene in it.
I do not know what you would do of earth but I surely know what would happen of America
or India if the ecosystem on earth breaks
down.
Can you prevent a single drop of rain from falling on white house?
Mr President genetic engineering
is not that a precise science which you suppose. Genes can land at totally undesired place like an airbus with not pilot in
it can land any where in Washington including the White
House.
We can have more discussion on this issue at any time including your scientists who are more interested in
change rather than science.
